Maybe you know, maybe you don’t but back in the day I played football at the collegiate level, played years for a semi-pro-outfit out of Des Moines (won a few National Championships in the process for whatever its worth) and coached professionally in Italy for a great organization called the Milano Seamen.
I played on the offensive (and defensive lines) and for those not as well-versed in American Football, these positions are called “The Trenches”. This is where the big-bodied players locked up to establish dominance and set the tempo for the game. When a touchdown was scored, nobody cheered for us, we didn’t spike the ball or dance in the end zone (although nowadays we are seeing a few more of the big guys get some touchdown love) and we definitely didn’t make the highlight reels (and if you did, it was usually for the other guy because you got beat).
But if you know football, you know that nothing happens without the offensive line. We set the tone. We protect the mission. We create rhythm in the chaos.
